Title: “Widowhood policy in the US”

Abstract: We do count with full US Census data for the period 1910-1940, we match a semi-complete list of dead soldiers in WWI. Then we obtain information of their relatives (widows, sons/daughters and daughters-in-law) to study their labor market and educational outcomes. At that time widowhood policy was starting to be implemented with State heterogeneity. Conducting a DiD, we study the effects of what exposure to death during WWI meant to relatives of soldiers and the role of widowhood policy to mitigate its implications.

Discussant: Juan Gabriel Rodríguez. Full Professor of the Department of Economic Analysis and Quantitative Economics - Universidad Complutense (Madrid, España).
